Camp Shamrock is a non-profit project
which has been running for over 40 years.
It provides holidays for children from
across the political religious and social divide in Ireland and focuses on
reconciliation and the understanding of diversity . These are children from
catholic and protestant areas of the island, who some for the first time share
space and time with their counterparts.
With the changing ethnic demography
in Ireland over the past 10 years it is also provides opportunity for our
children to explore and understand the rich diversity with others cultures. A particular emphasis is also placed on attracting
children from inner city areas to enjoy the outdoor experience of camping.
The staff on a voluntary basis and the Camp implements a practice of equal opportunity and seeks to provide a
service free from the impediments of sectarianism ,and prejudice.
The project is heavily subsidised by voluntary contributions to allowing who can’t afford to pay are not charged, while others pay a minimal fee.
Contributors
in the past have included a wide variety of churches, local businesses, individuals,
British Army, BBC Children In Need.
